Creating and Downloading a Website Backup Copy
You can protect your hard work by creating a full backup of your website. We will use the All-in-One WP Migration plugin to generate a single file that contains everything—your posts, images, themes, and settings—and save it to your computer.
Step 1: Create Your Backup
First, log into your WordPress dashboard and find the All-in-One WP Migration menu on the left side of your screen.
-
Open the Backups Menu: Click on the Backups option.
-
Start the Process: Click the large "Create Backup" button at the top of the page.
-
Wait for the Build: The plugin will immediately begin "archiving" your entire website. A progress bar will appear while it bundles your files and database. Please keep this window open until it finishes.
Step 2: Download the Backup to Your Computer
Once the backup is complete, it will be added to the list of files on that same page.
-
Identify the Backup: You will see a list of backups with their file size and the time they were created. Look for the one at the top of the list (the one you just made).
-
Click Download: Hover over your backup and click the Download button (usually represented by a downward-pointing arrow icon).
-
Confirm the Save: Your web browser will begin downloading a file that ends in .wpress.
-
Wait for Completion: Make sure the file download finishes 100% before closing your browser. You now have a complete "snapshot" of your website stored safely on your computer.
